Approaching Abstraction brings together works by artists from Europe, Britain, and the United States to explore abstraction as a continually evolving visual language. Spanning key movements from early Modernism and post-war abstraction to contemporary practice, the exhibition considers how colour, geometry, gesture, and form can reshape the way we perceive the world.
Featuring works by Serge Poliakoff, Jean-Paul Riopelle, Sam Francis, Hans Hofmann, Jim Dine, Frank Auerbach, Glenn Brown, Auguste Herbin, Gino Severini, Françoise Gilot, Ivan Turetskyy, Alexandre Istrati, and Yvaral, the exhibition reveals the many directions abstraction has taken across generations. Rather than presenting abstraction as a single style, Approaching Abstraction highlights its ability to move between landscape, figure, emotion, structure, and imagination.
