Pigeons are incredibly complex and intelligent animals, they are renowned for their extraordinary navigational abilities and use the sun as a guide and internal compass, a study at Oxford University found that they also use landmarks as signposts and travel along man-made roads and highways and even change direction at intersections, the highly social animals can be seen in flocks of 20 to 30 birds.
Pigeons mate for life and can fly at altitudes of 6000 feet and higher, with an average speed of 77 mph to 92 mph. Pigeons are kept for religious reasons by many people of different religions, including Muslims, Sikhs and Hindus, with some elderly Sikhs paying ceremonial fees to pigeons in honor of the high priest Guru Gobind Singh, known as the friend of pigeons.
