Frieze New York 2026 Returns to The Shed with 70 International Galleries
Frieze New York 2026 Returns to The Shed with a Strong Latin American Focus
Frieze New York 2026 will take place from 13–17 May at The Shed, Hudson Yards, marking the fair’s 14th edition. Bringing together more than 65 international galleries, this year’s event places a significant spotlight on Latin American art, highlighting leading galleries and artists from across the region and reinforcing its growing influence within the global contemporary art landscape.
The appointment of new gallery committee members Fátima González (Campeche) and Omayra Alvarado (Instituto de Visión) further strengthens the fair’s commitment to expanding Latin American representation. Held in the heart of New York a city that continues to define contemporary art the 2026 edition builds on recent momentum, championing creativity and offering insight into today’s most dynamic artistic conversations.
Christine Messineo, Director of Americas at Frieze, describes the fair as a snapshot of the most compelling artistic practices of our time, emphasizing New York’s culture of rigour, complexity and ambition. She notes that Frieze’s close collaborations with local institutions particularly in time-based media and performance extend its impact well beyond the fair’s architecture and into the wider city.
Kristell Chadé, Executive Director of Fairs, highlights Frieze New York’s continued importance for global art professionals, noting the particularly strong participation from Central and South America in the upcoming edition. The fair reflects both the depth of New York’s collector base and its role as a crossroads for international exchange.
Focus Section: Emerging Galleries and Experimental Practices
The fair’s Focus section, dedicated to solo presentations from galleries operating for 12 years or fewer, returns under the direction of curator Lumi Tan. Featuring 11 galleries, the section showcases ambitious and experimental practices that push conceptual and material boundaries.
With galleries based in Buenos Aires, Mexico City, São Paulo, London, Biarritz and New York, Focus presents a diverse range of artistic approaches. Themes range from ecological devastation and global crises to intimate explorations of personal relationships.
First-time participants in Focus include Campeche, Europa, Isla Flotante, Sargent’s Daughters, Soft Opening, Ulrik and W-galerÃa. The section is presented in partnership with Stone Island, reflecting the brand’s ongoing commitment to supporting research-driven, material-led artistic projects.
