Swiss contemporary artist Simon Berger is a pioneer who pushes conventional boundaries by shaping glass surfaces with precise hammer strikes. By intentionally shattering this fragile material, he transforms destruction into striking, deep human portraits, redefining the limits of the medium. Guided by light, shadow, and transparency, his creative process reflects the philosophy of “existence born from destruction” (morphogenesis). Through carefully controlled fractures, Berger transforms glass from a passive canvas into a vivid, haunting sculptural form. Formed as a sculpture, this artwork utilizes laminated safety glass set within an aluminum frame. Although the very nature of the material consists of shattered glass, the artwork remains in excellent condition, powerfully demonstrating the artist’s unique vision of merging destruction with sublime aesthetics.
